Hamlin Finishes Sixth at Richmond, Chase BeginsSeptember 14, 2015
Denny Hamlin finished sixth in Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway in the #11 FedEx Express Toyota, cementing his spot in the 16-driver Chase for the Sprint Cup championship playoff.
Hamlin was one of the strongest cars of the night, driving up from a 25th place starting position to lead 13 laps and run in the top-10 throughout the 400-lap event won by Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Matt Kenseth.
"We had a strong FedEx Camry and have a lot of consistency heading into the Chase," said Hamlin, who has four-straight top-six finishes. "Our cars are fast and we are peaking at the right time. Hopefully we can make it to Homestead with another shot at a title."
Hamlin made the Chase for the ninth time in his 10 full seasons behind the wheel of the #11 machine. With one victory, he enters the playoffs in a tie for eighth in the standings. The first three-race elimination segment starts next Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway.
Hamlin's JGR teammates Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards finished second and 11th at Richmond, respectively.
